I know what you're thinking. "What is this glorious creature? Surly, it must be make believe!" I am here to tell you, this is a real animal on this planet! This is a primate called an Aye-aye, and a member of the lemur family. They are only found in Madagascar, an island off the coast of Africa. While they don't get as much press as their ring-tailed cousins, they are also very cool. The aye-aye will party all night and sleep all day! They have a special finger which helps them pick up their tapas. By "tapas", I mean bugs living inside trees.
When I volunteered at the Denver Zoo, I spent a lot of time hanging out in the very dark aye-aye exhibit to help people spot them. Since they are nocturnal, the zoo keeps the lights off during the day, and then flips them on at night. This makes the aye-ayes more active while people are around. This is the perfect print for the person, young or old, who loves to learn about all kinds of critters.
